Edit Personal Product Template.

Has anyone been able to edit a personal product template?

We can edit shared templates via the Home-Area Page-Setup-Record Templates option.

I can delete a personal product template by opening up the "apply template" button from released products screen, selecting and using Alt-F9.

However, to date I have not found a way to amend a personal template.

Has anyone managed to do this?  Work around is to delete and recreate but I guess i'm missing an obvious way of amending them.

Thanks in advance.

Paul.

    Hi Paul,

Indeed it is not possible to edit a user created template. The design for system record templates and user templates is different.

The system templates are stored in the table SysRecordTemplateTable whereas the user templates are stored within the SysLastValue (Usage data).

Only solution from standard AX2012 at this time is the workaround as described in your question.

    Hi Paul!

    Follow these steps:

    1) Create a "New Product" that you can use as template, for example Product_template

    2) In the list page find Product_template and edit them:

Tab Product > New > Template > Create Personal Template

The new template is generated based on Product_template.

    Hello Martina,

    Thanks for the prompt response.

I don't think this is actually amending the personal template.  For example if you subsequently change the "Product_Template" this will not reflect in the Template you have already created.

You would need to delete the existing Personal template and recreate, again based on the item "Product_Template".

Let me know if I am  not understanding this correctly.

    Regards,

    Paul.

Thanks for the prompt response Andre,  I appreciate your input on this.

Knowing the personal templates are stored as usage data helps me understand the difference between them and shared templates and is also making me think shared templates may be a better option.

My reasoning on preferring personal is that different areas of the business setup different types of item with little cross over so seemed better for people perfoming item setup to only see there own.

    Regards, Paul.
