I have a customer who is selling globally from one UK company. They have advised us that certain commodity codes vary for certain countries or, possibly, groups of companies. Despite Incoterms being global, it would appear that certain countries classify certain products more precisely. This is a made-up but representative example:
- Tariff code 12345 = miniature model figures
- Country XX uses tariff code 1234500 for miniature model figures made of plastic and 1234501 for miniature model figures made of metal.
At present, I can see no alternative but to design a customisation that overrides the tariff code for certain countries or regions.
Have any other members of this forum experienced a similar situation and is there an alternative to a customisation?
