Data entity for periodic journals.

Hello,

Environment: AX7 8.0 / Update 22

We need to create / update periodic journals with the add-in Excel (Data entity).
The standard data entity “LedgerJournalLineEntity” allows only for Daily journal manipulation.
I can see the coded controls and business rules, which we could adapt or get around.
What I cannot be sure of is why did Microsoft limit this entity only on Daily journals and what could be the possible side effects of using a custom data entity for Periodic journals.
If someone could shed a light on this subject, I would appreciate it.

    Hello,

    After testing, I wasn’t able to find any obvious side effects of customizing the LedgerJournalLineEntity to be used with periodic journals.
    I extended the validateWrite() method of the entity and bypasses the control in the isJournalValid() method, as shown in the screenshot below.
    For more details about the code, please see LedgerDailyJournalExcelTemplate::validateDailyJournal(), which is called from isJournalValid().

    Hello Ludwig,

    Sorry for the late response.

    In the line of business users will employ an important number of periodic journals.
    They will have to update these journals, like modifying a financial dimension for example.
    That is why we thought of making available the add-in Excel for periodic type of journals, considering Excel’s convenience of use.

    Hello Saso,

    Why do you need to import lines into a periodic journal?

    Periodic journals are more like a template that you be copied into an ordinary GL journal on a regular basis, such as a month.

    If you have such regular postings, can't you simply upload them via the standard GL excel addin and post the journal that way?

    This actuall cuts off one step in your process (upload to the periodic journal).
