Blocking Warehouse for Maintenance

Hi,

I have hundreds of items available at Warehouse “W1”.

I would like to stop (or Block) any further receipt or issue , to and from this warehouse, for the reason of maintenance.

(I am not using location as a storage dimension, so I can’t block the location)

I can transfer items from “W1” to “W2” (by using transfer order, though it’s a painful to select and enter each and every item manually) but question here is , how can I block the warehouse so that order processor (Sales or Purchase) can’t use this warehouse anymore ?

Any help is highly appreciated.

Have you tried using Record Level Security to not allow the users ability to view or select this warehouse?

Hi Rahul,

Write an x++ job that takes all items with the default location of whse "W1" in purchase and sales module and stops the item.

Another job to unstop them.

Or you can probably do this using SQL but I would suggest x++

You can do it creating a users group with those warehouses blocked, include sales or purchase users to the group when you want to block them, and take them off when allowing access again. This combined with record level security will have the effect you want.

After many tests I found that for Record Level Security to work ok, you need to find the exact table where the 'record' is going to be saved, for inventory transactions it is InventJournalTrans, so that is the table you need to use in the RLS, stating that the field InventDimId ! (is not) the dimension assigned by AX to the warehouse, that in my case was !DIM-000014.

After that and logging off/on again, when you try to post a movement you'll receive a message that says more or less (I'm traslating from spanish) "A record in Inventory Journal Lines can't be created (InventJournalTrans). Due to record level security filters established you have been denied to access creating a record in the table."

Hi Rahul, there is a nice function if you hace WMS II. If you set your warehouse to use locations, in the tab Other of the location you will find two fields that will allow you to block materials to enter the location or to go out from the location. Those fields are under the group 'Blocking'. Redards

Under Site specific order settings create a record for the warehouse and block it for sales purchsae and inventory. Hope this would help.

Rahul, I agree that this is a gap in standard functionality. I know of two workarounds:

1. Make sure that you have a Warehouse item record for each item in 'W1', then set the Stock parameter 'Lock items during count' and generate an On hand stock count for warehouse 'W1': this will prevent any movements of the items in the warehouse.

2. Set the Warehouse to be a Quarantine warehouse so that it cannot be accessed directly: this cannot be done in the standard user interface so will need to be done via the AOT. A little dev can be done to allow this in the user interface, and/or to add a more specific warehouse type such as 'Blocked'.
