What .Net Framework version external dll should be compiled for to be used at Dynamics Ax 2012 R3?

Hello.

I need to call a function of some external DLL from our Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 application. The developer of the DLL asks me, are there any special requirements for the .Net Framework version the DLL should be compiled for?

If it is important, the DLL functions will be called on the server side on modifying some table data. Current .Net Framework version installed at AOS is 4.7.2.

You can see supported .NET versions in System requirements document (section Software requirements for all computers). I think you can use these versions for libraries loaded into AX 2012.

You can see that .NET 4.7 in AX 2012 R3 requires cumulative update 12.
