Sales price does not pick Fixed exchange rate at contract level, when timesheet posted

Hi,

Following is the scenario which i am facing in Projects module AX 2012 R3.

My company currency is GBP. I have a contract on EUR with Fixed Exchange rate (EUR to GBP -->0.7).  The Sales price has been setup as EUR 250 against the project. Now a timesheet is entered for 2 hours against the project and posted. The expected amount for invoicing is EUR 500 (which should be GBP 350 in transactions). The posted transaction of timesheet (voucher transaction) shows a different amount in GBP as 400. Here the exchange rate (which EUR to GBP --> 0.8) is taken from currency exchange rate setup in GL level for the particular date range.

My queries:

1) My customer insists that it should pick the fixed exchange rate from the contract instead of GL. Is this a bug or standard behaviour?

2) Also if there is something to be done to fix it, is there any easy way of correcting all past entries? Because the impact (correction) should be both at Project and GL Account level.

Thanks,

Bala

    Hello Bala,

Have you created the invoice for the hours posted?

If that is the case, the system should pick up the fixed exchange rate specified.

Note that this exchange rate will not affect your cost transactions only revenues, that is invoice postings.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

    Thanks for the response.

Yes, I have posted the invoice. There is no issue with invoice amount.

The issue is at Project WIP - Sales value. After posting the timesheet, if you look at the voucher transaction we can see three fields - Amount in transaction currency, Amount, Amount in reporting currency.

    In this,

    1) Amount in transaction currency will display in EUR (as my contract currency and Sales price are setup as EUR). So no issue at all.

    2) Amount will display in GBP (as this is my company currency or base currency). Here comes the problem. It is expected to use fixed exchange rate, but it doesn't.

    3) Amount in reporting currency will display in USD (as my reporting currency is USD). We do not bother about this at this moment.

    Thanks,

    Bala

    Hi Bala,

Accrual transactions are not affected by the fixed currency feature.

    Why should they?

The idea of the fixed currency feature is to protect you from currency gains/losses.

Internal accrual transactions do not affect the profit of your company because they do not result in realized exchange rate gains/losses.

If you want to apply the fixed exchange rate also to accruals, you would have to modify the system.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

Thanks Ludwig. We need to change the system to meet my customer demand.
