On-hand inventory problem

Hi all, I have an issue with a couple of items. For these items, the Inventory Dimension is Warehouse/Location. However, they show up in the on-hand section as only having a Warehouse dimension.

I cannot transfer them out to a different warehouse/location.

If I try to use the Quantity Adjustment, it will force me to choose a Location, then create a new record in the new Warehouse/Location, but leave the old record (which only contains the Warehouse).

I cannot change the Dimension Group in the item setup screen (to Warehouse only) because it says:

The new dimension group cannot be assigned. The physical inventory has not reached zero on-hand, while 'Activate closing of non-financial transfers' is set to Yes.

The new dimension group cannot be assigned. Physical inventory transactions might exist and/or financial inventory transactions are not fully settled, while 'Activate closing of non-financial transfers' is set to Yes.

Not sure what else to try.

What do you think?

    Hi Typhoon,

Your real question is not clear due to too many information. Note that you can choose which dimensions to display on the on-hand forms. Have you tried the Dimensions button already? This is a general setting, not related to the possible different dimension groups.

    Hi Typhoon,

If you activated Warehouse and Inventory Location it should show in On-hand Inventory , if it is not showing then it's some what strange issue and you will need technical assistance to solve .I'm wondering how do you posted inventory receipt without Location.

I wont be able to change Item Model Group if there is transaction/balance on it.

    thanks & Regards,

    Amith Prasanna.

    Dear,

    - Yes you cannot change the Storage dimension group if the item has stock.

    - If it is already set to include Location then you need to empty the stock first and create another item with the needed setup (Warehouse storage dimension), and then make inventory adjustment to fill your stock again for this item.

    Thank you,

    Thanks everyone for your replies.

Just to clarify, all on-hand inventory for that item should have both Warehouse and Location dimensions, but one of the on-hand records does not. It only has a Warehouse dimension, so it says "QTY 1, Warehouse A, Location *blank*".

I'm not sure how that happened.

I want to either set that record to zero, or add a location to it, but I'm not sure how to do so.

1- Have you checked the source of the transactions/ original document.

2- You might need to fix the data from DB as i don't see another way to do that from the system

    Thank you,

Thanks Kaled. I cannot even update it from the database without violating a primary key constraint (not that updating that table is recommended at all).

You can create movement or count journal for this item to make on hand equal zero

After that try to change dimension group and take care from change dimension group against database , it is forbidden action you ignore business logic and you will face many issues in the further.

Assuming you do not have 'Blank receipt allowed' ticked on the Location line of the item's Dimension group, and assuming you do not have 'Physical negative inventory' ticked on the item's inventory model group, then I suggest you try the Consistency checker (in a Test environment which has the problem, if you can). You can run it in Check mode first. If you run it at the 'Item' level, you can choose to run it for a single item.
