Cannot disable users - Active Directory user or group does not exist

Doing a bit of user cleanup in AX and have identified a number of active user accounts for people who are no longer with the organisation.

Unfortunately though, AX doesn't let me disable them and returns the following error "The Active Directory user or group does not exist. Contact your network administrator."

Obviously their network access was removed sometime in the past, hence the error, however  I would like to disable them in AX for no other reason than to keep AX as clean as possible (not sure if having them as active users in AX contributes to our licence costs).

Is there any way through the application to disable them (not able to run a script).

Thanks

    Hi,

I had this issue before and after digging into code I found user information is stored in some system classe "xAxaptaUserManager". When we try to disable user which got changed in AD it throw error message from this method getSIDFromName(alias, domainName, userInfo.AccountType); of class "xAxaptaUserManager".

As a workaround I created a simple form in AX which list all AX users and disabled it from this form and then delete it from System Administration --> Users form. It got deleted then, somehow Users form stores some AD and user's SID information in kernel classes.

I can send this form to you via email, you just to import it into your AOT and then disable user from there and later delete it from Users form.

Appreciate the offer Faisal but we subscribe to a hosted solution that is administered by by a third party.  I doubt we would be able to add external developments.

That you can't address this issue natively through the frontend seems like a bit of a design oversight to me.  The scenario I described is not uncommon.

Any particular reason why you want to keep the users in the Users list?

If they are deleted from Active Directory, why keep them as disabled users in AX?

If you delete them now, and later need them back, you can simply re-import the users. But if they are truly removed from Active Directory, then that doesn't sound likely. :-)

Hi Faisal - I'm encountering the same issue and was wondering if you could email me your form. My email is fbayegan@comscore.com

If you have access to the AOT you can navigate to the "System documentation" area and find the table "UserInfo".  If you right click and browse the table there is an "enable" column and that directly disables the user without making any checks.

    Hello Brian

the most effective way is to query (SQL).

Go in sys admin > Users > edit grid and disable the ones you want removed.

Jason if the user isn't present in the Active Directory any more, your suggestion will not work. I just double checked on a LIVE system and AX 2012 will still validate the user, even when you use "Edit in grid".

Eggsie's suggestion on the other hand works like a charm.
