More alternate items to one release product

Hi,

Can anyone tell me that..can we add more than one alternate items to the one released product in released product window.

Alternative items are only mean to be used for example when you are phasing out a product and you already have a new one instead, or in cases where you are changing the costing model for the item.

Your requirement to have multiple alternative items could only be achieved via development, AX only supports a single alternative product. Lachlan has a video showing how it works:

Guy has recommended looking into supplementary items as a functionality where additional items could be added to an order as the only solution out of the box:

I think you can chain Alternative items. For example, if no stock of Item 1, use Alternative Item 2. And if no stock of Item 2, use Alternative Item 3.

You can try a few workarounds- if you just want to know what is possible just as a look up without expecting Ax to apply any logic.

E.g that can be as simple as adding a notepad list.

on a bom that can be made from any of several similar components you can create different variants, or put the the alternatives on the bom with zero quantities,

much depends on how many items are involved, and how often the situation arises that you need to consider more than one alternative , and how much data maintenance is involved.

Ax also allows you to create unlimited GTIN numbers and no reason why those should not be alternate item codes
