Accellos Collect WMS for GP over WAN

Looking for some feedback from companies using WMS Accellos Collect for GP over WAN. We've been using it locally for a couple of years, but now we're looking into having our Europe warehouse to start using their handhelds connected via a VPN tunnel or whatever other option. The real questions is about performance, how does latency affects the availability and stability of the application for the remote users?

We do that at 2 locations via VPN tunnel.  1 location is +2500 miles from the host and the other is 400 miles from the host.  Bandwidth demand is very low as we use the character based (non-graphical) interface.  All locations are part of continental North America.  We don't seem to have too much trouble.

    USA to Europe though...hmmm....

    Hi Angel,

Accellos's WMS product is probably a connection-less application on the hand-held, which means it can work without being "permanently" connected and will update the data when it gets into 'network' reach-ability...

I'd double check with Accellos, but I don't think the the mobile apps is very data demanding and shouldn't require a high throughput or bandwidth.

    Hi Béat,

In fact, Accellos' WMS relies on a permanent connection to the GP database from the handheld thru a piece of software they call the "Listener". The Listener uses econnect to update GP tables and also sends other operations (like posting and printing) to another piece of software they call the "DPS".  I agree with you on the app not being very data demanding but we're still evaluating our options here.

Thank you for your valuable opinion.

    Interesting...

Most WMS mobile apps I have seen were connection-less.. and didn't required a permanent server connection to the data. But maybe the 'listener' is really what makes the connection and thus it retries to connect at given intervals if the network connection is lost..
