Hi Experts,
FO dev UI works fine. However, when Visual Studio is opened, it hangs and does not load. What could be the issue? I appreciate any help you can provide.

Usually, when you open VS, the services are restarted. you should check which of the following services are currently running.
    • MR2012ProcessService
    • DynamicsAxBatch
    • Microsoft.Dynamics.AX.Framework.Tools.DMF.SSISHelperService.exe
    • W3SVC

I checked these below services, nothing restarts when VS is opened.

    • MR2012ProcessService
    • DynamicsAxBatch
    • Microsoft.Dynamics.AX.Framework.Tools.DMF.SSISHelperService.exe
    • W3SVC

it hangs the UI, works perfectly when VS is closed.

    Hi Mohammad,

Is Dynamics 365 directly hanging or at certain actions? In case someone started debugging, then it can wait for the developer to continue when it hits some breakpoints.

When opening Visual Studio on a development environment, the Dynamics 365 service will be switched from IIS to IIS express. I haven't seen Dynamics 365 hanging apart from having not enough system resources or when it stops during a debugging session.

    Hi Andre,

Dynamics 365 is hanging directly, and the debugger is not attached. The UI starts hanging as soon as Visual Studio is opened.

    Raziq

    Here’s the corrected version:

    Hi Mohammad,

That is weird behavior. Have you tried the same on another development environment? Was there a recent change on this environment or was this one newly deployed?

    Hi Andre,

I am encountering the same issue on other development environments as well. The UI hangs as soon as Visual Studio is opened. Moreover, no breakpoints have been set up. I am accessing the machine using Bastion, not through RDP. It was working fine earlier but has recently stopped working. Although one of the development environments was recently upgraded to version 10.0.42, I am also seeing the same issue on a development environment with build version 10.0.40.

    Raziq

Can you please tell us whether IIS and IISExpress are running, both before and after opening VS?

What happens when you try to open F&O? Does it keeps trying to open the page until it runs into a timeout, do you get an HTTP error code, or what?

    Hi Martin,

I noticed that IISExpress starts running when Visual Studio (VS) is opened and stops after VS is closed.

When I open Finance & Operations (F&O), it loads properly when VS is closed. However, when VS is opened, F&O keeps attempting to load the page without displaying any timeout error or HTTP error code.

Okay, so it seems that F&O works for you when run on IIS but there is a problem when run on IIS Express. Do you agree?

Have you already checked F&O event logs (especially System Runtime)?

By the way, if you want, you can use IIS for development, instead of IIS Express.

    Hi Martin,

Yes, I agree there was an issue when running on IIS Express.  I switched to IIS, and it’s working fine now with no issues.
I followed the steps mentioned in the blog.

    Regards,
    Raziq
