Hello Experts,
I am facing an issue while using the Open in Excel functionality for the Products V2 (EcoResProductV2Entity) data entity in Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations.
Scenario

Data Entity: Products V2
Excel Add-in: Microsoft Dynamics Data Connector
Environment: D365 Finance & Operations

When I refresh or read data from the Excel workbook, I receive the following error:
Error reading data from binding
Details: The requested data set is too large.
Observations

The workbook is connected to the Products V2 entity.
The entity contains a large number of products.
The error occurs during data refresh/read operation from the Excel Add-in.
Even though the workbook opens successfully, refreshing the data fails with the above message

Questions

Are there any recommended approaches to handle large datasets with Open in Excel?
Can this be addressed through entity configuration, OData settings, or query optimization?
Has anyone experienced this issue and found a permanent solution without creating a custom data entity?

I have attached a screenshot of the error for reference.

For large data sets, you can use the filter.

This is an expected limitation of the Open in Excel feature when working with large entities such as Products V2 (EcoResProductV2Entity). There is no supported OData or entity configuration to remove this limitation.

Recommendations:

For large datasets, use Data Management, which is designed for high-volume exports.

If Open in Excel is required, apply filters to reduce the number of records and publish only the required columns to minimize the dataset size. This may allow the refresh to complete successfully.

Hi

For large datasets, you can use DMF instead of excel add-ins. since DMF can run in batch framework and there wont'e be any issues with the performance as well.

Is there any specific reason you are looking for all the products in Excel add ins?

Hi @SR-14070741-0 ,

You can try to use Data Management workspace and select CSV as an exported format rather than excel.

When sometimes the data load is too much to handle then excel export causes problem with the data processing and gives the same error like you have mentioned and sometimes error like "Unable to load complete data and some data might be lost".

Just try to follow the below mentioned steps and see if it works : -

Open Data Management workspace

Select export project

Select target data format as CSV and select your data entity EcoResProductV2entity

Select export in batch ( This will ensure your export doesn't time out)
