Zebra Printer question

Posted on by 364

Customer was asking about Zebra Printers - I do not know much about them but thought I would see if anyone had any thoughts on the matter

I was just wanting to reach out to inquire if there are any known issues with a particular Zebra Printer working from within GP. We currently have a Zebra ZM400 and the company recommends replacing it with a Zebra ZT411. Before we made a purchase I just thought I’d ask you guys if you encounter any particular models to stay away from.

    RE: Zebra Printer question

    As Derek said,

The primary question about the Zebra printer is : What is it used for ?

Do you print shipping labels or barcodes for inventory or serial numbers directly from GP ? Any 3rd-party software involved with the printing process?

I've worked with this type of printers in the past within a warehouse environment where the Zebra printer was used to print shipping labels for UPS and also product labels to fix on the product wrapping (including a serial# & UPC product code).. none of the labels were ever printed out from GP directly, but always by using another SW outside of GP.

My understanding is that the 2 models are very similar, but the newer model has embedded Wi-Fi options (and BlueTooth), plus it supports encoding of RFID tags in the labels, which the older model requires additional HW to install possibly.

IF there is no plan of printing soon RFID tags or print Wirelessly, there is no point in changing the printer, which certainly will serve still many years of good services. Those workhorses are built to last years of services.

    RE: Zebra Printer question

Dynamics GP developers, themselves, do not do any specific testing with different printers and Dynamics GP like they did in older versions such as Dynamics GP 10.0 or so, partially due to their being so many different brands and models, it would be an undertaking to keep up with them all and then keep that data current for each GP version.

I imagine the Community probably has some experience with Zebra printers that they can share, but ultimately, the recommendation is to setup a test environment with, in this example, a Zebra ZT411 printer, to verify that it not only is compatible with your current Dynamics GP environment but does what you and the customer need it to.

I say this because, even though other customers may have tested this brand and model of printer, and found it to work fine for them, that doesn't necessarily equate to it working the same way in your environment.

That being said, I do understand the basis of your question and hopefully someone can give some Feedback.

I'm not aware of my support team doing any testing with Zebra printers.

    Thank you,
