Does AX 2012 R3 allow for item supersedes? We have several items where the supplier has changed their part numbers and we need to change our item master to reflect the same and track the original item number. what is the best way to manage this in Dynamics AX 2012 r3.

We keep our supplier's part number in our item master in a field from an ISV we use. In our industry it is typical for a supplier to change their item number and we must keep a history in case of recalls. It sounds like Dynamics AX does not have a function for item superseding. I appreciate the response.

Why do not you use the external item description for the item in item master to store supplier specific item number and item description.
Its not advisable to change item numbers to match that with the suppliers as suppliers can do that multiple times giving your business a headache. You can store supplier item number for all suppliers keeping you company item number intact.

It would be possible to use the Data Import Export Framework tool for mass upload of the external item numbers.
