Is a new Dynamic 365 On-Premise license necessary when upgrading to 9.x?

Hello,

our customer uses Dynamics 365 On-Premise 8.2.28.11, which was original a Dynamics CRM 2016 installation and license. The license is available in the VLSC, where in the license summary the "Version" is "2016". However, under downloads is Dynamics 365 9.0 accessible.

I'm curious if an upgrade from 8.2 to 9.0 or 9.1 require a new buy of Dynamics CRM license or is the upgrade free of charge?

Hi!

It's a major version release, so a new license is required. There's a demo version available for download that comes with a 90 day trial license while you get the definitive one.
