Assign Product Attribute Values to a Product

Hi

I was trying to assign attribute values to a product following the steps below but have not been successful:

Procedure: Assign Product Attribute Values to a Product

After you create attribute types and product attributes, you must assign the product attributes to categories. Next, you must assign the category to the product, and then you can define values for the product attributes. To assign a category and enter product attribute values, follow these steps:

  1. Open Product information management > Common > Products > All products and product masters.
  2. Select the desired product from the list to add product categories to, and then click Edit in the Maintain group of the Action Pane.
  3. Click Product categories in the Setup group of the Action Pane, and the Product categories form will open.
  4. Click New to create a new product category.
  5. Select the Category hierarchy.
  6. Select the Category.
  7. Close the Product categories form.
  8. Click Product attribute on the Action Pane.
  9. Select the attribute from the list.
  10. Enter or select a value for the attribute.
  11. Repeat steps 9 and 10 for each attribute.
  12. Close the Attribute values form.

It is possible to do that without to define the attribute values from retail module?

Best regards,

Mari Rojas

    Hi Mari,

To use Product attributes, I believe you need to use a Category of type 'Procurement category', not a Retail type one. This blog seems to cover it as well as any:

Hello Guy, thanks for your blog link posted. It really helped! I only wonder: in Dynamics 365 you can set up product attributes on category hierarchies but adding the hierahcy to products, the attributes are not visible. Like mentioned in the blog you posted here, using the procurement and sourcing module and entering the attributes in the procurement categories, it does appear on the product. Question left is: why is it then possible to add attributes on category hierarchies? I do not find an answer on this question. Is there any help you or anybody can provide? Thanks Serge

Attributes on retail hierarchies will also show up, so if you select the hierarchy that is used for Procurement and sourcing or retail in the "Category hierarchy form" it will be important to be able to set up the hierarchies with attributes.

The procurement category setup form has this in addition to some accounting +++.

Hello Fredrik, thanks for your reply. I followed the 12 steps as described above. However the attributes from the retail product hierarchy attribute group do not appear on the item attributes. But at least I know it should work now. I'll try to find out what's going wrong in my case.

I was having the same problem and have established that you need to associate the product attribute records with the procurement category first in 'Procurement and sourcing -> Procurement categories] NOT via [Product information management -> Setup -> Categories and attributes -> Category hierarchy. Although you can set the product attribute values here.

It is possible to do it for Retail Product Category as well. All we need to do the same setup for attributes and assign that in Retail and Commerce > Category and product management > product categories > assign the product attribute group.

And check the Category attribute values which is in below tab.

then go to released products > filter the assigned product > click on Product attributes. Enjoy

    Cheers,

    Sam

Please, follow the link below to see how to assign product attributes to a product either through Procurement category or Retail category

I think a better question would be: what is the point of assigning attributes to procurement categories now that they can no longer be used to search / refine product selection during the purchase requisition process as was previously the case in the Enterprise Portal in 2012? As far as I can see, attributes can no longer be used for this purpose during purchase requisition entry in Dynamics 365. The "Amazon style" purchase requisition entry was pretty slick and it seems like a great loss to the system

    Hi

I recently came across a similar business scenario to assign Product Attributes values using new Category.

The blogs/steps mentioned by our friends worked great to assign Product attributes.

You might want to check if you have assigned "Category Attribute groups" on the new "Category".

    ******

Sharing my analysis for a similar business case I was facing a challenge ,which involved multiple Category hierarchies for reference.

    1. If there are multiple Category Hierarchies , you might want to check if the hierarchy type assoication has been setup at below path :

Product information management -> Setup -> Categories and attributes -> Category hierarchy

Setup Tab -> Associate Hierarchy type

Then one can use any new Category Hierarchy to add Product Attributes.

    ******

Let me know if this works fine or is anything missing .

    Regards
