Are borders communal or duplicated?

For example if we have adjacent text boxes A and B

Is text box A's right border the same border as B's left border?

I am asking because I am struggling with changing a border color (yes I spent 300 years at university studying coding and now I can't change a border color).

I guess that border-right-A and border-left-B refer to the same border, but that is actually confusing then, because you can set them to different colours and styles.

Any insight will be appreciated.

......It would actually be helpful if there were 2 borders between them....
