Item Number with an invisible line character

We got an issue with an item number that is created in Navision. It seems the item number was created and there is an invisible line character on it. So when we are trying to do the bin movement on this item we are getting an error since this is affecting the "Available Quantity to Move".

This is causing some warehouse issue since we cannot do a bin movement due to this problem.

What is the best way to remove the invisible line character from an existing item number? We already have a ledger entries on this item.

    Hi,

Did you try renaming the Item by opening the Item Card and edit the "No."?

    Best Regards,

    MMV

If you rename the item no. from the "item card" all the related ledger entries will be also renamed.

Can you post a screen capture with the error?

    Good luck!

I do not think we got an error message. It is just when doing a bin movement we cannot do it and when you try to find the item using Whole Field - we are not able to do it.

We do not allow the No. to be edit once there are item ledgers transactions involved.

We might go to the SQL script route to fix this issue.

We are not allowed to rename the No. in the Item Card.  So we are thinking going to route of the SQL script to handle this.

Will keep you posted if we have done it - we are going to test this out first.

If you rename "No." on the Item Card, it renames everywhere automatically everywhere.

If you use the SQL script, you need to modify everywhere by using the SQL Script (for all the tables).  So what is the difference between SQL Script and renaming on the Item Card.  Instead, the SQL Script is more time consuming (to write) and it takes enough time verify whether you have modified everywhere.

If you rename an item,  NAV will automatically rename all the places where it is properly linked. That is the beauty of Microsoft Dynamics NAV. Having said that there is an small point to be made. If you or your Microsoft Dynamics NAV partner has modified or created new field which hold item number and if the developer didn't set the table relations, then system will not rename the item number for you.

Therefore please be careful when you change item number or any existing masters in the system.
