Thoughts about changing GL account number, i.e. from 47123 to 40123?

Posted on by

I know AX 2012 R3 allows to edit the GL main account and change the number. I tried it and the change is reflected in the journal transactions (wonderful!).

This would be required, for example, if an account number is in the wrong group say, expenses are recorded from 40000 to 40999, and for some mysterious reason account 47123 is also an expense hiding within the revenue accounts. It would be nice to bring it where it belongs, right?

The questions are:  Should this be done? Is it OK to do it if needed?

Any thoughts?

Thank you

I asked because there is some uncertainty in the business to change the account number. The safe path would be creating the new account and just moving the balance from the old account. The problem I see is that reporting will have to consider the exceptions to use historical data for anything.

I'd like to be reassuring that they can just change the number.

    Thanks

Definitely! The mapping has to be updated for MR, and other reporting we have in place.

    Thanks

Yes, this is exactly what I did for testing.

    Hello Ricardo,

If you do that your Management Reporter data mart will most probably get 'scrapped'; that is, your reports might show wrong data.

Test this carefully in a demo/test environment that has a separate MR application installed and see if a reset of the data mart might help in case reports show wrong figures.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Technically it can be done.

Like you saw it has an impact on the old transactions as well. You should talk with your finance department on whether this is legal / ok in your country.

If you want to keep the old transactions like they are, you can just create a new account and stop / block the old one.
