Upgrading from 2009 R2 --> 2015

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

I am about to upgrade a NAV 2009 database to NAV 2015 and this is my first time. First I assume that I have to get rid of all the customization which has been implemented in the NAV 2009 database in order to make the upgrade. How do I do this proberly?

At first I tried to write SQL scripts which deleted all the custom objects and their metadata and removed the values from all the custom fields in the standard tables. Then I tried to compile all tables but their was a long error log afterwards because their is code/variables refering to the deleted custom objects.

Any advise is greatly appreciated :)

I have now tried the walktrough described on Gunners blog http://www.dynamics.is/?p=2076 but cannot get past TASK 6 STEP 3.

I have imported alle the standard NAV 2015 objects, but cannot compile all the custom objects because they are referring to codeunits and forms which do not exist anymore.

I have tried to delete the custom objects in the object table and object metadata table in SQL management studio, which now makes me able to compile all objects. Afterwards I try to sync all tables and get the message "operational with sync failures"

    any suggestions?

NOTE: There are specific ranges (bought by another company) in the database to which I dont have access because they are not supported by my partner license.

    Hi

In order to do it correctly you can take a look at this from Gunnar's blog:

    Thanks for fast reply

Sorry for the confusion in my first post.

As it is, I dont need the customizations in NAV2015 and therefore dont the customization data. I am only interested in stripping the customizations and upgrading the database to NAV2015.  But how do I get rid of the customizations?

Who said that you have to delete the customizations?

Don't you need them in NAV2015 anymore?

then how do you add them back in NAV2015?

What about Data in those customization fields?

You have to merge them with NAV2015 objects.
