After doing a partial retirement of an asset in fixed asset module I noticed that it was a zero effect, only two transactions debit removing from the original 4286-1 and credit creating the one to be disposed of 4286-2 however no debit to 4286-2 as is how the part disposal usually works.
When I check for a batch it is there but says Transaction Error - Edit Required in the status and when i try to check it i get an error "You cannot edit the batch or transactions in this batch. Use the Batch Recovery window to continue processing this batch"
I go to Batch Recovery and check the box for the correct Batch ID and the status changes to "Edit Required" but I can not edit.
If I go back into Fixed asset general ledger posting screen to try to change it i get an error " This batch does not exist or has already been posted. Select an existing batch or use the next batch ID to create a new batch"
Thanks in advance for your assistance
Hello SonyaG,
Without seeing the data of the Asset, i would recommend looking at what option was used during the Retirement as these options do different things. This could be why you didnt see the Credit.
Additionally, there could have been an issue with the retirement and there is now damaged data for the Asset that would need to be cleaned up. We would need a support case to review the data of the asset.
For the batch error, you will need to free the batch up in SQL and print the edit list and review the transaction(s) to determine what the problem is and if it partially posted. You can use the KB article below to free up the batch so you can access it.
In regards to attempting to do the GL Posting Process in FA a second time. This wont allow you to do it. Once the process is run, the FA00902 has the GLINTBTCHNUM field updated with the Batch Number. There is also a record created in the FA00905 and FA15000 table as well which stops from double picking up and posting from FA to GL.
What you can try to do in TEST, is free the batch up using the KB above. You can then correct the batch and post. Once this is completed, test un-retiring the Asset and re-retiring it to see if you get the expected results. Again, i recommend doing this in test.
KB 871973 How to set up a test company that has a copy of live company data by using SQL Server 7.0, SQL Server 2000, or SQL Server 2005
If that does not work, without seeing the data, you could look at deleting the Asset, correcting the GL for what has been posted, re-entering the Asset, re-depreciate and partially retire again.
I hope this helps!
