Getting error "FindModuleFromDescriptor task returned false but did not log an error" while running Azure Build pipeline for D365FO project

Hi All,

I have set up a Azure Hosted Build Pipeline using TFVC for a D365FO project. After setting all required tasks as per MS guidelines, when I run the Pipeline then I get below error at the step "MS Build Solution":

##[error]D:\a\8\NuGets\Microsoft.Dynamics.AX.Platform.CompilerPackage\DevAlm\Microsoft.Dynamics.Framework.Tools.BuildTasks.targets(55,5): Error MSB4181: The "FindModuleFromDescriptor" task returned false but did not log an error.

The above step gets executed just after it tries to build my empty project solution for my model. I have checked that the project and my descriptor file exist there at correct path and already checked in.

Did anyone face the above error?

Any guidance is appreciated.

Thanks

    Hi.

Can you check your descriptor format and also file path? If possible can we have a screenshot of your VSTS folder structure?

Thanks for the reply. Please find below my VSTS structure and the descriptor file:

    Hi,

The files and structure seems to be correct for me. I think you might recheck all the step to setup the pipelines with variables to verify the pipeline again.

I have actually verified all the steps and have compared them with one of working pipeline also and nothing looks suspicious. Anyway, thanks for your suggestions.

To diagnose the error, first enable a diagnostic log (use the -verbosity:diag command-line switch), and check the MSBuild log file with the full diagnostics output. For bigger output logs on large projects, consider using the binary log (-bl command-line switch) and the MSBuild Structured Log Viewer to view the output more easily.

I suggest trying to do a build with the standard build vm. If that works fine then you know there is no issue with the metadata structure. Then the only issue could be related to the vs project containing your model.

    Hi,

Sorry for late reply. This issue was resolved by removing the values mentioned in Local Path field against Trunk/Main mapping. I had put variable MetadataPath there and it was giving this error. So there should not be anything in the field colored yellow below:
