Searching for contacts

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

When using Dynamics 365 Remote Assist on HoloLens 2, I am unable to search for the email addresses of users outside my organization. How can I view users outside my organization?

You need to add the external user to the Azure active directory and then provide them a license of Microsoft Teams in order to view their email addresses in your system.

    Regards.

Oh, I see. I will speak to the University Admin and see if this is possible. Thanks Jason!

Is there a solution to this? Can I purchase a Remote Assist subscription with an outlook/hotmail account that is not affiliated with any organization (i.e. a personal account and not a work or school account). That way I would be the Admin and would be able to communicate with other organizations.

Just to add onto to what Vincent has said.

If you want to call someone using Remote Assist they need to be a Teams user and have 'access'.

You can use Teams Guesting to make that happen.  Firstly, your University Admin would have to allow you to create a new Team and allow guesting on the Teams Admin portal.  If you can do that, then create a new team and add your external user to your Team.  If they are outside your org, Teams will make them a guest and send them an email to sign in.

But all of this is contingent on your University's IT department's permission settings.

Hmmm, I am not sure your University IT Admin will allow you adding guest to the Uni Azure Directory.

    Hi Vincent,

Okay, I see. So I am a student at a university and I sign in into Remote Assist using my institutions credentials. What are the specific steps for adding users outside the organization into the Azure Active directory?

Indeed, remote experts are limited to users *inside* your organization.

To call an external expert, you must first add him as a guest in your Azure Active Directory and ensure they have a Teams license or Remote Assist license.

Note: Currently, Remote Assist doesn’t support two users calling each other *even* if the two tenants are joined by federation.
