I am working with a company who just recently moved from SAP to Microsoft Dynamics GP. They started out with a fresh install of Dynamics GP and left their SAP system behind. We would however like to get rid of the hardware that SAP is running on and would like to migrate the data into a separate GP installation for archive purposes.
Can anyone point me in the direction of how to do this migration? Are there tools available to help me migrate the data from SAP to GP? Any documentation I can follow? I am not familiar with either SAP or GP but I have been charge with figuring out how to do this.
Thank you in advance,
Matt

Matt, please also check out our solution that is built on top of Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) by utilizing SSIS capabilities.
The tool is available at http://www.kingswaysoft.com/products/ssis-integration-toolkit-for-microsoft-dynamics-gp. Check it out and let us know if you need any assistance or anything.
Cheers,
Matt, from a GP integration perspective, also have a look at Scribe and eConnect's SmartConnect. Depending on the kind of data you need to migrate, Integration Manager might not cover it all. I.e., if you have MFG or Field Service data to migrate, you'll need more than Integration Manager can offer. Redbeard makes a great recommendation re: MFG tools.
I cannot stress strongly enough that you will need a talented SAP resource to extract the data and a strong GP data migration resource to format the SAP data for import to GP. Make sure you have those two individuals lined up and they can tell you what tools they prefer to use for the migration.
WilloWare.com has a number of really cool enhancements and tools centered around the Dynamics GP Manufacturing Suite - BOM Import is just one of them.
I have a strong preference for WilloWare, they have deep roots in Dynamics GP manufacturing and a lot of consistency.
What are some of the 3rd party tools that are available? I would like to go have a look.
Matt,
Frank is correct. I worked on a similar project in 2012 - the fields in SAP have interesting names; like "Material Number = RC27M-MATNR" and "Standard Value
= PLPOD-VGW03(01)"). SAP has templates, which translate these field names, and I have several, but I have no idea how useful they would prove.
The other side of this, of course is having an understanding of where this data resides in GP. So, Jonathan gets a gold star for recommending Integration Manager as a means to getting the data into GP!
If you look closely, Integration Manager covers a lot of integration points, but doesn't cover Manufacturing Modules, like Bill of Materials, Routing, Machines, Work Centers, etc. There are other utilities meant to meet these needs. There are also some cool 3rd Party tools available.
Our project was successful because the client had resources on both the SAP and Dynamics side, who understood the tables of their respective tools.
If you can get the data from SAP into a txt or Excel file I would go with Integration Manager as it provides the most flexibility.
Matt, in my experience you need a SAP resource who can extract and re-format the data from SAP into a format that GP can use. SAP table structures are totally different from GP tables. It's a challenging exercise if you've never been through it.
