Hi,
New to Navision, does the Platform hotfix need to match the Application hotfix? Also, how many cumulative updates does Microsoft support? We are on Microsoft Dynamics Nav 2016 CU 5 and the latest version is CU 33.

In addition to what other members wrote, Microsoft issues CUs every month, and the normal lifecycle of the supported version is over when three new versions are released (that is, Microsoft by default supports the current latest version and two previous versions). For NAV there has been some exceptions as more older versions were supported, but there is no guarantee it will be in the future. Given default support terms and the fact that each version is released once per year, the version should be taken off the support approximately after three years after its first release.
So, just try to keep up with the newest versions and do the regular updates.
Platform hotfix are related to .exe's and .dll that have been corrected to perform or stop dynamics nav from crashing.
Application hotfix are related to functionality of dynamics nav or business logic of wrong calculation or some bad code that are corrected.
Just do a test by yourself if you don’t believe on this :-) there’s no written rules in that.
I need documentation that proves this. Our Nav Partner is telling me something different, but no one can provide me documentation that confirms these answers one way or another. Do you have any official documentation? Or a link to official documentation?
No they don't need to match. You can choose to apply only a platform hotfix or application hotfix. If you apply a platform hotfix, this must be applyed to client and server components. Regarding CU, normally Microsoft release a CU every month or so for the supported NAV releases.
