Seniors,

I need your advice, I am basically a beginner in programming, learned C and can write simple programming, i would like to do Dynamics AX, wondering how tough it will be? do i required any object oriented programming experience to learn this? or basic programming experience is good enough to learn X++ and customize the dynamics code?

I would really appreciate any feedback.

thanks lot for all your help.

Hi edmon, seven year ago when I'm started to develop in x++ and before again I've never heard about the x++ I'm arriving from a c# experience.

IMHO if you've a small experience in c# you'll find the x++ more simple and powerful (overall the data access).

As you've said a basic programming experience is good enough to learn X++. I've suggest to start mainly for understand the various layer of x++ and the hierarchy in the extenddatatype that is very powerful.

    Bye, Daniele.

    Hi Edmon,

While I personally have not tried going from a non object orientated language, I have helped a co-worker who has. I think that the language syntax will come easy to some extent but what will throw you will be learning to think in OO terms. Things like inheritance threw him quite a lot and its easy to get overwhelmed and confused by debugging and looking at the call stack.  Most of all is don't get discouraged. It took him about 6 months to a year to adjust and I think he did really well.

I am not sure what your learning resources are like but I would suggest getting some general OO literature as well as some AX help. Depending on the level of the partner/customer you work for there is customer/partner source, thats a good resource. I also highly recommend keeping your cross reference up to date as the majority of learning will come from picking apart how Microsoft deal with things.

Good luck and keep at it!

if you have good knowledge of C then it good for starting working on X++

syntax for X++ is similar as C, so C knowledge will help you for sure.. and think you are 50% through for working on Dynamics AX development

Dynamics AX is a ERP system and having lots of functionality already developed using 100s of tables and classes already created...

Dynamics is developed using excellent application of Object oriented programming concepts,

for next 50% of good knowledge you need to learn Object Oriented programming concepts

Please verify and update us if you need more information
