Thanks Janet.
The thread you suggested helped a lot.
I had tried everything but it was not working so there was one catch. I checked the services running for MS dynamics DIEF and the administrator account was associated with it. I added that account to the groups of MS dynamics Import Export Framework services.
But let me also add here, I was not able to find the local Groups and users as it was not displaying anything. I searched for Users and was able to add the required user (administrator) to the group of MS dynamics import Export framework services and it worked fine. The important things is to restart the server or PC for changes to come into effect.
Thanks for all the help this thread helped a lot with pointers and various options.
Thanks & Regards,
Siddhesh Narkar.

Hi Chris,
Your problem looks like a not completely installed tool or not the correct permissions.
Take a careful look at the next page: technet.microsoft.com/.../jj225595.aspx
Was the installation done on each machine correctly with appropriate permissions? The AX AOS user should have access to the working directory as well.
thanks but still not working..
this is my sample working directory : \\srv-axdb\TEST DMF foLder\
Chris, please go to Data import export framework > Setup > Data import export framework parameters. Take a look at the parameter Shared working directory and hit the validate button. My guess is this will not validate because the service account does not have access to the directory (if one is specified). Change that directory to one that's accessible and you should be good to go.
