We want to provide read only access to business unit manager whenever an opportunity is created.

    Hi Partner,
    To control who can access restricted or sensitive data and resources and what they can do with them, assign users to security roles. 
    Then, configure the privileges associated with the security role.
    Open security roles you need, and remove other privileges and keep read privilege on the oppoetunity:

    Dear Sasi,
     
    1. Create a custom security role: Create a new security role named "Manager Read-Only" and assign it the following privileges.
     
    2. Read privilege for the Opportunity entity
     
    3. Assign the security role to business unit managers: Identify all business unit managers and assign them the "Manager Read-Only" security role.
