i wanted to know is there any way to discontinue variants of a product ? can we discontinue a particular color or size of a product?

Hi Humakhan,
There is no option to discontinue variant within the standard. At a customer they bought a solution from Icon AX (Product Lifecycle Management). This add-on caters for this and other nice features.
