Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to implement tracking sales pipeline history, and showing under the opportunity as a new tab as outlined in these community posts.
Track Opportunity Sales Stage History - Microsoft Dynamics 365 Community
Track Opportunity Pipeline Stage Change - Dynamics 365 Sales Forum Community Forum
I have followed the instructions to the letter following Leah Ju and dian74, but I must be missing one vital part of getting the new entity form to show in my Opportunity form.
The closest I can get is the following.
I know my process works, when I click on one of the records in the above Opp view I get the form I want to see inside my new entity (Sales Stage History)
This tracks the movement between the stages correctly I believe.
Where I am stuck, is can I display the new entity form (Sales Stage History) inside my Opportunity form? Or is this not how it works?
I've linked all fields correctly I believe, and have 1:N relationships as outlined by Leah Ju in the related post.
When I am inside my Opportunity Main Form, and I have created a new column to house the fields from my new entity, the only field that I can import is my lookup field back to that entity.
This gives me only the name only, when I click on it it takes me to the last record in my new entity form.
Any advice out there for me to try, am I missing a vital key step that is not outlined in the video that dian74 had kindly shared?
Or because all my fields to track sales status are inside another entity, there is no way I can show these fields in my opportunity form directly?
Many thanks in advance everyone,
:) Sean
Thank you Leah Ju, it now works perfectly.
Thank you for your time, and so quickly!
These forums are an absolute wealth of information and support,
Have a great day/evening ahead :)
Hi Sean78,
Yes, you are right. One view of new entity like original video has created and added to the dub-grid.
Now, you need choose ‘Only Related Records’ in sub-grid properties dialog.
Records | Choose from two options: - Only Related Records: Sub-grid will display only records related to the current record. - All Record Types: Sub-grid will display records filtered only by the default view or, if the view selector is enabled, any views the user chooses. The option you choose will affect the behavior of the show list control. |
For example, i just select contact sub-grid as example(i have not created SS History entity), the focus is on ‘Only Related Records’ option.

Leah Ju

Hi Leah Ju.
I think I managed to find out how it was achieved, I changed my opportunity sub grid (SS History) to display to the correct entity, AND default view. I had to build a view that would support the fields I need to show, then when selected it resembles the original video result.
Now my last hurdle is to work out how to ensure that the history showing inside that opportunity, is only history relating to that Opp record. Right now it is showing all history for all Opportunities.
Appreciate the eyes over the request. I will persist now to fine tune the data relating only to that Opp;)
Many thanks :) Sean
Hi Leah Ju,
Thank you for the reply, I am looking into your suggestion of a quick view control to see if this can achieve my desired result. Work in progress, I will keep persisting on that approach.
I may have not been clear in explaining my desired output in the opportunity form, I am trying to achieve the exact output that dian74 has achieved in the below image in her video:
Or shown in her video here starting at 3:21 in the video timeline.
Specifically I am trying to understand how dian74 managed to display the above sales stage history data in the Opp Form, In a new Column, as shown above.
Is the above result achieved using quick forms? Or is this likely achieved through other methods inside the Opportunity form under a new column/Tab?
I believe my linkage is correct, and process/workflow is correct, I am really just unsure how she would have displayed the results of the process and the new entity data fields inside the Opp.
I will keep looking into Quick Forms in the meantime.
Thank you for the suggestions, it is greatly appreciated!
Kind Regards,
Hi Sean78,
I am not very clear about your needs, you mentioned “display the new entity form (Sales Stage History) inside my Opportunity form”
New entity(Sales Stage History) and opportunity have two relationship: 1:N and N :1, these two relationships allow the new entity(Sales Stage History) to be displayed in a different way on the opportunity form—SS History lookup field and SS History sub-grid.
Which relationship do you want to display the new entity(Sales Stage History) form based on?
if you want to view forms of all new entity(Sales Stage History) records that show in the sub-grid, which is impossible, you only click it to navigate to main form of the new entity(Sales Stage History).
If you want to view forms of new entity(Sales Stage History) record from lookup field, you can add one quick view control in the opportunity, which can show new entity(Sales Stage History) form based on lookup field value.
(1)Create a quick view form in the New entity(Sales Stage History).
(2)Add Quick view control related to the new entity(Sales Stage History) in the opportunity.

If I misunderstood the question please elaborate the same further.
