Deductions on new 2020 W4

I have a silly question.  If an employee enters a deduction on their W4, I understand we should a negative in the Additional Withholding field, but is this a per pay period field or an annual amount?

    You should enter the per pay period amount to achieve the result you want the federal withholding reduced by.
