Is it possible to create a view or report of the latest updates on an opportunity?

We have a requirement to generate a weekly report on active opportunities that provides a summary or a snapshot view of each opportunity's latest update. The purpose is to get a sense of what work has been done on the opportunities in the last week without having to drill into each opportunity and review the timeline. The team manager should be able to review the report / view and get a sense of whether work has been done on the opportunity in the last week and "where things stand" at that point in time.

This seems like it would be a common requirement for many organizations, but I cannot figure out a way to technically achieve this. Has anyone come up with a way to show this information?

There is the option to create a text field for "Latest Update" and have our sales rep fill this in on each of their opportunities each week, but that adds more work for them that really shouldn't be necessary.

Any suggestions on how best to achieve this is much appreciated!

    It is completely dependent on how the work is recorded.

    If the team is recording the work in notes (timeline), Email, phone call, appointment or Tasks....

    In ideal scenario, please ask the team to create a task when doing any work and track these tasks associated to Opportunity.

    The team is tracking general updates on Notes in the timeline, but in many cases the updates are self-evident from the emails or other activities tracked to that opportunity.

    Before using Dynamics, the open opportunities were managed in a spreadsheet. Every Monday, sales reps would update the spreadsheet with the latest update for each of their opportunities so that the sales manager could get a snapshot of each opportunity's status. For example: "Opportunity A: Sent pricing quote to client on 8/29, awaiting feedback". We are trying to recreate this using Dynamics. With how much is automatically captured in the system (such as email exchanges), we are hoping for this to be ultimately less work for the sales reps. In an ideal world, we'd instead see that for Opportunity A, the last update on the timeline was an email sent to the customer with subject "Price quote for your review". The sales rep doesn't have to do anything extra, their work speaks for itself and the manager gets a snapshot of the opportunity status. The manager can see this snapshot for all open opportunities in one view or report and has the ability to drill in on only those opportunities where he wants more information.

    Even if everything they did was tracked as an activity on the opportunity, I still don't see how this addresses the requirement, unless I am missing something. When creating a view on the Opportunities table, activity information is not support as related data (due to the relationship type), and on the activities table I cannot apply filters to only show me the most recent activity per each opportunity.
