Bulk Import Users - Dynamics Finance and Operations

Hello, I am just trying to understand how to bulk import users using Data Management.

I have been able to import a user into Dynamics Finance and Operations using Data Management and had a few questions around this:

  1. I wanted to understand does the user require a Dynamics License to be able to access the environment?

  2. Is it possible to assign licenses in bulk while also importing users into the environment via Data management or do we have to manually assign the licenses?

  3. Can I bulk update user's security roles using Data Management?

  4. Is it possible to automate the process of adding users into Dynamics F&O?

Many thanks

    Hi Matt,

Great questions. I will try to help you.

    1. To be able to use the application, a user should have an appropriate Dynamics 365 license. You can import the users without the license assigned in Azure AD, but for accessing the application, the license should be linked to the user.

    2. I haven't done this myself before. You can have a look at Power Automate which has a connector to interact with Azure AD.

    3. Yes this is possible. You can have a look at my blog which explains which data entities are available; also for user security role assignments: Move all user and security settings with data entities - Dynamicspedia

    4. For this purpose, you can use Power Automate or have a look at an ISV solution like we offer at To-Increase. If you want to use Power Automate, you can list the users from Azure AD and sync them with the user inforation in Dynamics 365 F&O. You probably need to think of which users you want to import with what condition.

Let us know if you need more in-depth help on some of the answers.
