Upgrading from GP2015 to a newer version

We are using GP2015 and need to upgrade to a newer version before the April deadline for support to end.  What are your suggestions and how do we go about upgrading? What cost is associated? Which version do we need to upgrade to?  If we upgrade to 2016 how long before we will have to upgrade again?

Thank you

My suggestion would be to go all the way to GP 18.2. You will need to do this in two hops. First to GP 2016 and then to GP 18.2. Do you have a reseller to assist with this upgrade? You should also upgrade SQL and the OS as well. I see no sense in upgrading to an older version of GP. That just delays the inevitable. Do you have the ability to build test servers? We do upgrades like this all the time and simply send back the final product. No reason why you could not do this as well provided the horsepower and knowledge is available.

    Hi Jennifer-

I wouldn't upgrade to 2016. As Richard said below -- you are just delaying the inevitable. May as well go to the latest and greatest.

We are doing that here -- next month we're upgrading from 2015 R2 to the latest.

Upgrading involves a lot of testing: not just systems stuff but also ensuring the users are trained, understand what will be happening, can do their jobs afterwards, etc. If your Windows Server and SQL Server versions are getting older, you should also look at replacing those too.

Hopefully you have a partner that is advising you on all of this.

There's lots of information out there -- between this forum, GPUG and searching the Internet.

If I can be of any assistance, let me know.

    Thanks.

    Joe
