How to use a custom user for Microsoft Entra ID integration

Hi everyone,

I have an external application that uses the OData API via Azure AD aka Entra ID. According to documentation online, I need to register it in /System administration > Setup > Microsoft Entra ID applications/. The problem I have here is that for the User ID instead of specifying the /Admin/ user, I want to use a new user that was created for the purpose of this integration, but when I use that user, my API calls fail with this 403 error:

{
/Message/: /Please verify that the user is valid and set up correctly./
}

What permissions should I assign my new user such that it is able to be used to register the application in Microsoft Entra ID applications?

I have the same question (0)

    What is the role for this new user? Did u try giving this user a sys admin role and see if it works?

    Thanks,

    Hi,
    You need to associate the client ID with a user ID created for your business requirements. This user, such as a service account user, should have the necessary security permissions to fulfill the business requirements and ensure adequate access. Therefore, the security role that you delegate to the user need to have adequate access.

    Hi,
    To resolve the issue, you need to ensure that the custom user has the necessary roles assigned. In F&O, roles define the permissions a user has. Common roles for API integration include roles related to data entities, read access to tables, and execute permissions for services.
    Best regards,
    Kevin

    Did you try to give the user that you want "System Administrator" security role?

    Hi, thanks for the replies. Does anyone know where in the system I can configure the necessary roles for the user, and which roles are required? I cannot find any information online.

    Hi tl2022,

    There is documentation about creating users. On the same form and on the form Assign users to roles, you can manage which roles to add to users. Create new users - Finance & Operations | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn
