Customer postal address entity - update not done

Posted on by 5

I have tried to update the ADDRESSCITY field of the Customer Postal addresses.

This was done by exporting the addresses, changing the ADDRESSCITY-field, and then doing an import again. This was done by using Customer Postal address entity in Data management.

All other fields was not changed.

Status in the staging file is that the update was completed, but when i look in the the record in DYN365, no update has been done.

After that i have tried to set the Expiration date equal to the Effective date. My thought was to inactivate the address, and afterwards i could upload the address again with a new ADDRESSLOCATIONID. But nothing was changed on the existing record.

Do you have any ideas how to update these addresses?

The addresses are delivery addresses - none of these addresses are primary addresses, so i am not able to use the Customers V3 entity.

Did you ever get a resolution to this?

    I'm experiencing the same thing.

I want to bulk update the ADDRESSDESCRIPTION field for a large number of customer address records, I am providing the following fields which are required

ADDRESSLOCATIONID - provided from export from CustomerPostaladdresses Entity (these are definitely correct values)
    CUSTOMERACCOUNTNUMBER - Mandatory
    CUSTOMERLEGALENTITYID- Mandatory
ADDRESSDESCRIPTION - Field with updated value required

DMF import says its completed and has weirdly Created new rather than Updated existing records, however there are no new address records created (verified by exporting entity again) and the ADDRESSDESCRIPTION field is not updated.

I can use the Excel Addin to modify records using the same CustomerPostalAddress entity but i wanted to do it via DMF as i can easily produce the change file needed

If you are still stuck please raise a Microsoft support ticket for further help in analysis.

@Nikolaos: I have checked in the Customer form, and no new delivery address has been added - but i have not changed the ADDRESSLOCATIONID, so to me that is okay.

Normally when i add new addresses i autogenerate the addresslocationid.

On some customers there are multiple delivery addresses, so i need the ADDRESSLOCATIONID, to be able to update the specific addresses - either to close it, or to update the ADDRESSCITY. But that is not possible?

    Hi André

I have tried to refresh and regenerate the mapping, with no luck - meaning the problem still exists.

Furthermore i have checked the city and the zipcode data - they should not do any overrides to the wrong zipcode.

Normally it's not expected to update any addresses. Instead a new one is created if you change something. The old one is automatically marked as no longer active (via ValidTo field). So you are not expected to manually set ValidTo value. You just provide a new address, and it automatically becomes active, marking the previously active record as no longer active.

Did you check if a new address was created when you imported the file?

    Hi Henrik,

Can you try to refresh the entity list and re-generate the field mapping? I tried to reproduce it, but it is working as expected in my environment.

You can also check the settings for City validation and if you have a Postal code setup with the previous city? This could potentially overrule the import.
