Hi Everyone,

After a very good learning and great responses in AX SSRS reports from Dynamics community i have decided to move on dynamics ax forms :P.

When opening and editing my first ever form in AX  i have received the following error :

Field 'Fixed asset number' must be filled in.

Steps : I have added ASSETTABLE as a datasource and added few fields in design.

please help/guide me in facing form issue/issues.

thank you again.

The error message tells you that you're trying to save a record without any value in a mandatory field called 'Fixed asset number'.

I guess you're trying to save an empty AssetTable record. Don't you think so?

If you're just practicing I would suggest you to use a custom dummy tableinstead of a table like Assettable,  and play around with that before moving to any complex scenarios, default elements have a lot of validations.

and If you just want to display data in your form(not create new records) using AssetTable you can try using the property "AllowCreate" in Data source as "No".

and well, the best way to track any error is through Debugging, try that and if that doesn't help you resolve your issue then you can come to the community with more details :)

Thank you so much for you help. I think its a good idea to work with dummy/custom tables rather then approaching built-in tables.

i just wanna start directly from intermediate level not beginners that is why tried Assettable :P :).

I will appreciate if you can share any learning material for forms.(books, video etc).

    Sorry for late response.

    It is appreciated : )

    Thanks

    Hi Maqbool Niazi,

I guess if you tell us more detail like step by step what you did, we can know what's wrong and give you a specific suggestion

If you want to see a tutorial to create a form you can see this article

    dhiruax2012.blogspot.co.id/.../procedure-creating-form.html

before that of course create a table at the beginning

    dhiruax2012.blogspot.co.id/.../procedure-creating-new-table.html

    dhiruax2012.blogspot.co.id/.../procedure-creating-relation.html

    Hope this can help

    Dear Bintang,

    Thank you for your help.

FYI i have already done some practices to create custom table and new form as mentioned in above links.

    Steps of the form :

    1. Created new form in AOT and added ASSETTABLE as datasource.(testing on stating server so no issues)

    2. drag and drop some ASSETTABLE fields like ASSETID,ASSETGROUP,PERSONNELNUMBER,GISREFERENCE AND PARCELID to the newly created form grid view in design .

    3. After saving and opening the form , the form is showing proper data but when i want to edit/modify some fields like GISREFERENCE OR PersonnelNumber it shows that "Field 'Fixed asset number' must be filled in."

as we are not modifying it and that field and column already contains data.

    thank you
