Hi there,

I'm starting at a new business and was asked to find someone to help us with data integration between our system and our warehouses system, which is located somewhere else.  Anyone have any idea how to go about finding someone to do a good job?

With GP security you can really lock that out as much as you want. If all you them to see are sales documents simply give them access to only the sales document inquiry screen. Security can be assigned on a screen by screen basis so you have total control.  When it comes to integration that is a completely separate matter. You can use Integration Manager or SmartConnect or Scribe or you can enlist the assistance of companies like our to write a custom integration.

Thank you.  Yes, I thought as much but the problem is, I can google it but none of the answers I'm getting specifically state whether they can NOT see anything else when accessing those specific functions.  Management reporter would have nothing to do with that?  Also, as people brought up here, even if that was possible, we would be asking them to DOUBLE ENTER the info in their system and ours, hence the reason we are looking into integration

Are you using Management Reporter for your financials? If yes, users are granted access via their domain credentials. Grant access only to those appropriate users. If using AFA use GP security to lock them out of AFA. Do an internet search on GP Role Security. That should get you started. I would start out by granting them access to almost nothing and then slowly grant them access to what they need.

Thank you, yes, read only is too much access.  These are our financials we are talking about.    Are we able to do a lock down to only let them edit those particular functions and they can't SEE anything else either?  If so, how?

You have a series of GP Light users. This will allow read-only access. Otherwise, using GP security you can lock them down as much as needed.

I don't know but I can find out.  Does this let them see our end?  Because the other concern is that we want them to have access to edit that part ONLY and not have access to anything else obviously.

Is this what is used at the remote site:

    ediwebtracker.geodis.com/.../Login.aspx

This is a cloud based solution. If you have an on premise version you will need to open a pipe between your two locations. This will allow you to see both sites as if they are at the same location. With no pipe you will be back in the old days where you are sending files back and forth. With a pipe you could set up a direct link and send data over the wire. Of course, their budget will dictate what you can do.

    RE: Data Integration

I have no idea, that's why I gave the actual name of what they use.  No connection, other than the internet and right now they email info back and forth.  Very archaic.  I would say that we need to make the higher ups happy enough that they don't notice a difference.  As you probably know, they want change but are scared of it also, so they basically don't want to see there is a change, other than the warehouse takes care of that part, and it reflects on our side.  The problem that I'm concerned about is that I don't think they understand that most likely, the best we would get is some mapping to the GL's, not actual sales orders generating on our side, etc.  In my opinion, on demand, as they want approval steps along the way.  I think on demand would make they more possible.

Is their system based on MS SQL? If it GP then the answer would be Yes. What type of connection exists between the two locations? How seamless do you need the connection to be? Will it be automatic or on demand?

Bi-directional - they say no, but I honestly think that in order for them to update info, they would HAVE to send back over, if we are saying we want them to enter and not us...
