Dynamincs 365 accessed around many countries around the world. Latency.

Posted on by 689

Hi Community!

I would like to see your comments about this scenario:  Our Dyn365 is in the region: NorthAmerica.  Azure Datacenters:  California.

Our users are around the world:

  • Asia:  Philipines and India;
  • Afrika:  Lusaka;
  • South and Central America;

As per our Dyn365 is in USA, the users in Asia and Afrika have high latency and will present issues with the system in their laptops and Mobile (Online and Offline).

I know there is no way to replicate the 'solution' to nearest DataCenters for our users in Asia and Afrika.

Please how may we drive this issues?

Thanks and best regards.

    Hi Daniel,

    Thank you for your response.

    No VPN, because the system is Dynamics 365 ONline.

    It is a good idea:

    -To get an average location that works best for all;

    -To choose the datacenter location based on the amount of users that are near to the Datacenter.

    But I would like to know if there are other options, like 'replication to other azure datacenter' besides the ones you mention.

    Thanks and best regards.

    Hey Roxana.

    The are certain things you can check:

    -  if users are using a VPN for example, this might affect "where" they're connecting from.

    - The second thing you might approach is: Where are located most of the users?  If most of the users are in USA, then it makes sense to have dynamics in USA datacenters.  But if most of your users are in other locatiotns (Asia), then it might be better to move data near most users.

    - Finally, I would ask "what's a valid response time?" for example: if your users in USA are having response times below 100ms and users in Africa are experiencing 300ms, and the number of users is similar, moving your Dynamics instances to an intermediate place (Let's say UK or France) might result in USA users having response around 150 ms for example (lost some speed) but Africa users might experience an improvement (reaching 200ms, for example).  there are some nice tools on Internet to measure the response times from your location to different Azure datacenters: azurespeedtest.azurewebsites.net/ and www.azurespeed.com/.../Latency for example.

    With these three things in mind (response times from different datacenters, numbers of users per region and use of VPNs), business stakeholders can take a decision regarding where to locate their data.

    regards,
