Hi,

I restored Production database on my development db. Hence I was changing all the configurations in AX which should point to development related servers.

For EP, in System administration -> Enterprise Portal -> Websites screen, I deleted the existing production EP site entry and trying to add a newer one for Development EP portal. but now It is throwing error.

Server was unable to process request. ---> Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Last time I faced this, but as it was urgent I reinstalled Enterprise Portal for development which registered site itself. but this seems to be ongoing problem now.

How to get rid of this? Has anyone faced this before?

I am using AX 2012 R2 CU7

Kindly help. Thanks.

    Hi Iamv,

This is a very generic error seen after restoring live to test. Try the following :

open SysServerSessions in SQL (Delete all records in this table after stopping AOS. this will clear any previous sessions of live AOS)

Open AX and validate System service accounts and validate the Business connector accounts.

Open Server configuration form, Check if there is any AX instance record of live still there. If so remove it.

run a full CIL and try installing again.

In future, try using Test Data Transfer tool to transfer data from live to Test. That way you can control which tables to exclude while exporting from live and your EP or SSRS settings will not be affected. It would be a one time setup required.

    Hi Manish,

Thanks. Ok got it. I will try this.

Do you have any information on how much time Test Data Transfer Tool take in case Db size is 10 GB ? I mean Backup and Restore takes at least 30 minutes and 30 minutes for configuration changes. so it takes 1 hours currently.

Of course, I'm going to say registering manually works fine on most systems, so it must be something particular to your setup. I imagine EP was running properly on your system before restoring the PROD dbs, and all the components are on the same machine. Are you running the AX client with Run as administrator when registering the site (some machine with UAC on behave strange).

    Hi Iamv

Well, the time taken really depends on the SQL performance. This basically exports the data for each table separately along with it's schema. later you need to import this into the Test environment.

A 10GB database should not take more than 15 mins. This first time setups need to be completed before you do this operation.

Thanks Lulian. I tried with your solution of starting client with Run as Administrator and it worked.
