Confusion about the Project Operations Apps and Project CRM App

I shall be amazed if anyone can give me a simple answer to the following qustion.

So i just watched a very informativ video about project Operations by Microsoft.

Introduction to Dynamics 365 Project Operations and roadmap - YouTube

The second half of the video, we see a product presentation. All well and fine.

All of a sudden, the presentator switches from a crm app in to a operational app, and apparently she tries to hide it, not a single word about we just went in to a whole different platform.

so is this product not ready yet? or what am i supposed to sell as a microsoft partner?

what does a customer get, when i sell him a Licence for "Dynamics 365 Project Operations" , does he get a Operations App which i need to deploy in Lifecycle Services, or does he get a CRM App, or BOTH ?

Thanks for taking the time

RE: Confusion about the Project Operations Apps and Project CRM App

I need to correct the above slightly. The Project Operations SKU enables the aforementioned 3 different deployment types. It's not necessary to purchase Dynamics 365 Finance or Dynamics 365 SCM when purchasing the Project Operations SKU.

In reality though, customers most likely would not only run the F&O only deployment of Project Operations (or for that matter the integrated deployment either!) as it's essentially just classic PMA. The capabilities of D365 Finance for the GL and chart of accounts etc etc would most likely be needed. But what's enough to deploy F&O is the Project Operations SKU as a base license in 20 pcs.

RE: Confusion about the Project Operations Apps and Project CRM App

    Good afternoon Ruben,

by buying a Dynamics 365 Project Operations license you don`t get licenses for the Dynamics 365 Finance/Supply Chain. You can therefore just use the Lite-Deployment Scenario for Project Operations and the related CRM capabilities. The following image gives you an overview of the explained deployment types above and the relationship between Dynamics 365 Project Operations and Dynamics 365 Finance/Supply Chain:

    pastedimage1628763801633v1.png

    In general counts:

    • Dynamics 365 Finance/Supply Chain (ERP) is in Dynamics 365 Project Operations (CRM) not included or just with extreme limited components
    • In Dynamics 365 Finance/Supply Chain (ERP) license is Dynamics 365 Project Operations (CRM) not included

The licensing therefore has changed in regards to Dynamics 365 Project Service Automation. When you decide to use a Project Operations deployment type out of the Lite-Deployment, you need to license Dynamics 365 Project Operations and Finance/Supply Chain by each.

LCS functionality is only included by deploying Dynamics 365 Finance/Supply Chain while the Project Operations is related to the Power Platform Admin Center as all Dynamics 365 CRM applications (Actual: 12.08.2021).

The Microsoft Dual Write application is included in the Power Platform and LCS and will be activated/enabled by having the correct licenses.

    Rg,

    Alexander

*Due to the complex and different possibilities of deploying Dynamics 365 I highly recommend not to setup the application without some expert/partner or support. (For more information contact me under anassl@inno-solutions.info or visit www.inno-solutions.de)

RE: Confusion about the Project Operations Apps and Project CRM App

    Hi Ruben Heinrich.

I'll try to give you a simple answer

    • ProjOps SKU licenses both the Dataverse and F&O sides for ProjOps, according to the deployment methods mentioned below.
    • There are 3 different deployment methods:
      • Lite deployment. This is Dataverse (if we use old names we could say Customer Engagement or CRM) only.
        • UI is based on model-driven Power Apps.
        • Project for the web, based on Fluent UI, is infused into the model-driven application.
      • Integrated deployment, officially named Project Operations for resource/non-stocked based scenarios. This is the hero scenario and platform play deployment, in which part of the end-to-end process is handled in Dataverse and project accounting in Finance & Operations. This is what Rupa demonstrated on the video you mentioned.
        • UI is based on model-driven Power Apps for Dataverse and on F&O's UI (I don't know the official name of the F&O UI).
        • Project for the web, based on Fluent UI, is infused into the model-driven application.
        • Deployment process is seeing rapid changes in this deployment due to F&O's converging to Power Platform, but in a nutshell it's right now a combination on LCS and PPAC.
      • F&O only deployment, officially know as Project Operations for stocked/production-based scenarios.
        • UI is based on F&O.
        • This is essentially the same as classic PMA is F&O.
