Hi everyone,
I have a dummy question. Can I install Microsoft Dynamics Nav on a vmware virtual machine running windows 8 and SQL server?

Yes you can
Yes, you can. Please check system requirements to be sure your system is compatible:
msdn.microsoft.com/.../dd301054(v=nav.90).aspx
Yes, it is even available on Azure Marketplace
azure.microsoft.com/.../microsoftdynamicsnav2015
Ideally yes, you can do it.
Yes Obviously.
Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm a bit confused with the product license. If one buys a license for NAV, does this include a license for the MS Server as well?
Hi,
Please check the below link :
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn892088(v=nav.90).aspx
The license for NAV covers generally only NAV itself. When you buy your first licenses, it includes starter pack, that allows you to use Server and Client applications. The database itself should be MS SQL database, and it is licensed separately, however there is an option for free SQL Express version (which has certain limitations).
As NAV is using SQL as database, You need to also buy MS SQL license separately along with NAV license.
You can go for SQL Standard Edition and SQL C/AL (based on No. of Users).
Yes you can do it without any issue.
