Hi everyone, 

I have a dummy question. Can I install Microsoft Dynamics Nav on a vmware virtual machine running windows 8 and SQL server?

    Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm a bit confused with the product license. If one buys a license for NAV, does this include a license for the MS Server as well?

    The license for NAV covers generally only NAV itself. When you buy your first licenses, it includes starter pack, that allows you to use Server and Client applications. The database itself should be MS SQL database, and it is licensed separately, however there is an option for free SQL Express version (which has certain limitations).

    As NAV is using SQL as database, You need to also buy MS SQL license separately along with NAV license.

    You can go for SQL Standard Edition and SQL C/AL (based on No. of Users).
