External Notes are ONLY printing on External documents and not Internal documents R3 CU7

Currently in R3 CU7 External Notes are ONLY printing on External documents and not Internal documents.  To my understanding you should be able to use Internal for Internal ONLY documents but notes that are External will print on BOTH internal and external documents.

Is there a hotfix for this issue or has anyone else experienced/fixed this issue?

    Hi Ansel,

    Within 14 years working with AX I never have seen external notes being printed on internal documents.

    I actually see this request a lot.  You must be referring to the sales picking list?

    Hi Andre,

    Just for my knowledge are you talking about the Notes as described in the following blog posts:

    dynamicsaxtipoftheday.com/.../configure-notes-to-print-on-standard-forms-like-the-order-confirmation

    Thanks,

    Baber.

    Hi Baber,

    There is a relation with the information in that blog. Also in that blog it is discussed to print notes on external documents. Ansels question is related to internal documents.

    Thanks Andre for the details.

    Brandon,  That is exactly what I'm referring to.

    The TechNet explanation is misleading and would make you believe that the Internal notes display on internal documents and External will appear in both.  Closer reading, this appears to only refer to how it is seen in the client, versus how it is printed on the SSRS reports.

    Thanks Andre for the clarification.  I'm surprised that AX does not handle notes in this way, as users want to have this type of functionality.

    This is an easy change.

    In Classes\WMSPickingList_OrderPickDP\methods\processReport, find the following line of code.

    docuRefLine = DocuRefSearch::newTypeIdAndRestriction(salesLine,
    custFormletterDocument.DocuTypePickingList,
    Internal);

    change it to
    docuRefLine = DocuRefSearch::newDocuTypeId(salesLine,
    custFormletterDocument.DocuTypePickingList);

    The same thing can be done in methods\PrintDocumentHeader.

    Be sure to test it. This is for academic purposes only.

    Brandon, that worked perfectly.  I also modified the "PrintDocumentHeader" method, changing only a few things to make it work there also.  Thanks!

    Glad to hear it!

    Document handling in AX is a great foundation, but companies often change how notes are copied from record tor record (or referenced at the time of printing rather than copied at all).  Things I've frequently seen done to Document handling include -

    Adding an effective and expiration date.

    Adding checkboxes to control where notes print and/or copy on a note by note basis.

    Adding an Acquire button that operates a locally (or remotely) attached scanner and capture the image as an attachment.

    Dragging an e-mail onto a drop target on Document handling, creating a record for every attachment and storing the body of the e-mail.

    Being able to send an e-mail with a stored file (typically PDF) with one or two clicks.

    Copying attached documents (typically vendor invoices) to inter-company journals after vendor invoice journals that offset to those other companies are posted, so users in that branch can inspect the vendor invoice.

    Stuff like that.

    Good luck!

    Oh, also having notes act as "popup" warnings, driven by checkboxes, i.e. when an item is used on a SO, having an infolog with a particular warning be generated driven by Document handling notes attached to the customer, or item, etc.  Same with PO, and so on.
