From my perspective, it's much easier to create a new separate field with Multiselect Optionset type and use the same source of options.
If you want to migrate the data as well - create a console app/SSIS package/anything other to migrate the data from the existing field to the newly created one.

From my experience, you cannot convert the data of option set into a multiselect option set. You should create a new field multiselect type option set and add the values you want.

Thanks for your suggestion. Though the issue am faced is that I need to align a Choices (Yes/No) Data type field to an existing Multiselect Option set on a Contact entity - where if a multiselect option is selected can have multiple persona?
