Edit in Excel Not Working, Will Not Load Data

Posted on by 23
As of Dec. 8th, the Edit in Excel functionality is no longer working.

When opening any Edit in Excel workbook, the Dynamics 365 Add-in returns this error:
An unexpected app error has occurred. Details: Object doesn't support property or method 'from'

Uploading the file to OneDrive and opening in Excel online similarly returns this error:
An error occurred while writing to the data cache
Details:
An internal error has occurred.

This occurs on both versions 22.5.59966.60134 and 23.1.13431.13546.

Any help is appreciated.

Well, it was fixed for about 3 days after we updated to 23.3, so maybe the update didn't actually change anything...

Now we are encountering a different error:
"An unexpected app error has occurred.
    Details:
Unable to get property 'forEach' of undefined or null reference"

After leaving the file open for a while, another error appears:
    "Error Loading Metadata
    Details:
Please check server connection, verify the current user has proper access, and try again. Error message: 'The request timed out waiting for a response.'"

It seems this issue has been fixed in version 23.3. We are no longer receiving any errors in Edit in Excel files. Refreshing and publishing changes are working as expected.

If you are facing this issue, try updating to the latest version of Business Central.

    We got this error, too.
This error will appear when we use Excel 2016 or Excel 2019, but it's okay to load data when we open version 2021 or open it from OneDrive online.

We hope this issue will be resolved soon cause our users need to use this action.

this is an issue for us too
We have been advised that we should upgrade to Office 2021 (we are on Office 2019) or Microsoft Edge Webview2
but this is not good enough in my view - it needs a proper response

Is there a solution for this? We have similar issue on our end?

Hi Taiwo, I have not resolved this issue. This issue appeared suddenly with no changes to any of our systems or configurations. I suspect there may have been some change on Microsoft's side that is causing some incompatibility or an error that will require Microsoft's intervention. Thanks for confirming it's not just me.

Erik, this exact error message has been reported. Have you resolved this, if yes what did you do?

Edit in Excel Not Working, Will Not Load Data
    Hi Judy,

I am using Chrome. This happens on Firefox as well, and even in incognito mode.
For Excel desktop, I have Excel 2019.

Yun Zhu, I tried logging out and back in (in both the Excel add-in and my browser login), but the issue persists. We are on a paid, premium cloud license, and this happens on both sandbox and production environments.

    Thanks,
    Erik

Update: I checked with others and there is no problem. Data can be updated from Excel to BC.
You can try logging out and logging in again. If using a trial environment, please check your license.

    Thanks
    ZHU

    Hi Sir,

May I know what the office version did you use? Have you tried to update the office version to see if it can help.
What the browser did you use when you get such error, Since the Internal Explore is not supported for the Office Add-in currently.

    Best Regards,
    Judy
