Report Writer - Linking Record Notes for both Customer and Document

Hi

My client is using record notes as a very basic method to record details about a customer in general or a particular document.

I am wanting to include both the customer level note and the document level note on the same report in report writer.  I am using the Unapplied Documents report as the basis.

Problem - you can only link the Record Notes Master table into the report once.  Either from the RM Open File or the RM Customer MSTR file (I created those links).  If I link from the former, I get the document notes.  If I link from the latter, I get the Customer notes.

Is it possible to link both?

When I was a customer, we had a report like this - but it was built in Crystal - I suspect the writer of the report used sub-reports to be able to give us both.

Cheers

Heather

    Heather,

Your suspicions are correct. You cannot alias tables with Report Writer. If you can use Crystal, SSRS, or link Excel to a view you can accomplish your objective.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Heather

Use the RW_GetNoteText() Report Writer function that I added to the GP 7.0 core dictionary.

The following blog posts explain what you need to know, especially Vaidy's example.

David - you absolutely rock!  Vaidy's post perfectly answered my query - I was obviously not using the correct words in my search for that one to come up.

Thanks for taking the time to answer - much appreciated.
