Data Conversion Procedure

Posted on by 4,818

I have a question regarding the data conversion for the system upgrade. If we need to convert the version from 4.0 to 2013, do we need to import the data to the new system twice? The first time, we need to import the data to the new system in order to verify the data after the reports are migrated to the new version. Before the system goes alive, we need to import the data again.

If not, how do we keep the data to the current since we are still using the old system before the transition. Thank you!

Thank you for all your response! I understand we need to convert from old version to 2009 and then to 2013. After the data and objects are converted to 2013, we need to test the new system, but the data are still running in old system after the converstion. Can we import the data only from the old system since we have had new orders during the time after the conversion is done and before the system goes alive. Thank you!

The source version for the upgrade can be Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009, Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 SP1, or Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2. It cannot be an earlier version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV. If you have an earlier version, such as Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 or Microsoft Dynamics NAV 4.0, you must first upgrade that version to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 before you can upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013.

You can upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 from the SP1 or the R2 version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009.

If your current version is not the SP1 or the R2 version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009, you must upgrade to the R2 version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009, and then upgrade again from the R2 version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013.

Or as suggested by Aleksander, you need to re-implement in NAV2013

In your case, the best solution is to do migration two times. But if you are end user, I do not recommend doing it alone. As I said, migration to NAV2013 is too complex. I recommend to ask your partner for advice and help.

Are you want to migrate only balances or complete entries?

Thank you for your reply, Aleksandar!

So what is the best solution to migrate?  Doing it once or twice? In order to keep the data to the current during transition, what is the best way to do it?  I am an end user and we are going to migrate, and  so I want to know the procedure to get it prepared first.  Thank you again!

    RE: Data Conversion Procedure

Migration from older version to 2013 is complex process. There is not the same tables. Some of very important tables are different. Dimension functionality is completely different e.g.

If you do this migration, the best way is to do complete migration again before GoLive.

Are you end user or partner?
