Import data into company in new AX 2012 R2 CU7 instance from contoso demo data or from MS VM

Hi All,

I installed new instance of AX 2012 R2 CU7. Now I only want to import data into one company from contoso demo data. I have been trying to achieve this thrugh export/import functionality under Administration module but It is taking hell of time. I started export data almost 12 hours ago and it is still going on.

Please be advised that I am creating lite version of AX where I only want to create one company with demo data. In Contoso demo data there are lot of companies and I dont want all.

There might be other options to export and import data from one to another instance like test data transfer tool and DIMF. However, these options require more installation from my side e.g. in case test data transfer tool I need to extract files first and later import data which will take around 1 day to complete. I experienced it in R3 installation.

Can anyone please guide me a quick way to import data.

    i can suggest you the workaround that you can pick the option to import complete contoso data later you can go to form below and delete the not required companies

    Administration -> Setup -> Organization -> Legal Entities)?

    But Be aware that global shared data will remain in the system. e.g. the chart of accounts, fiscal calendars. These can be used by other companies.

    Thanks for your input I appreciate it. I have been struggling with exporting the data from source system. It is taking hell of time once this is ready then any workaround can be applied.

    Hi Faisal,

    Exporting one complete company is not supported and will not ensure you have all needed global shared data. Also importing will not ensure everything will be completely OK due to foreign key relations on many tables. So for your requirement I would agree with Amir's suggestion. Install the complete demo data set and delete some companies.

    Thanks Andre for your suggestions. I did same as suggested by Amir and this was also one of my initial thoughts too. However, After doing this there are many other steps to perform to make AX working.

    These steps include adding AOS service account in MSDynamicsAX in SQL server from which AOS service is running, delete values from some SYS*** tables and setting up report server configuration values in AX, Analysis server and Enterprise portal again. This is what I was looking to avoid and just upload data in a smooth way.

    At the end I am able to see data now.

    Hi Andre,

    What would be the pros and cons to delete a legal entity? Can this create any data inconsistency in the system or may it crash the whole application?
