Export X++Object definitions as XML

 Hello AX Community!

I am wondering if there is a way to export objects in XML-Format. Like You would export on the normal way as xpo-File.

I know, here is  an method to serialize object instance. But  as I said, we need to get the aplication object itself.

Thank you!

    Hi,

    You can`t export Axapta objects as XML just in XPO files but you can export the documentation of objects in XML if you go and right click on the project -> Add-Ins -> Extract XML documentaion.

    Hi,

    as far as i know there is no tool which exports object definitions (and/or metadata) as xml.

    Some years ago i have written a script which iterates over all objects stored in a (development) project and exports each object (including code properties and so) into a xml file. But i don't have this script on hand jet. Sorry.

    I think there is no other way as to write some code which iterates over the aot and exports the objects into a xml file/structure.

     Hi akueh,

    I am thinking about just to build an C#-converter for xpo files. As I remember it has similiar hierarchical structure like XML.

    Well, it is 1 step more, but our purpose is to parse our code-documentation outside of AX, so it is ok.

     I dont understand why MS doesn't switch to XML instead of XPO as export format? Historical reasons? o_O

    Anyway thank you for your help.

    Hi,

    if you will "only" export the code-documentation you can use the xml documentation export feature.
    In combilation with sandcastle you can build up your own documentation (i.e. as chm file).

    Please take a look at http://www.axaptapedia.com/Sandcastle for mor details.
