Re: Iam Newbie....Help Needed
I understand that you are not employed by a NAV partner. You will only be able to develop in NAV if your company purchases the development granules. This can get pretty expensive, so make sure your company gets the right information there. If you don't have a NAV license that includes the development granules, you can download a very limited license from MSDN.
Now to learn NAV development there are a few official certification courses that you can do, the most important ones for NAV developers are "Introduction to C/SIDE Programming", "C/SIDE Solution Developmenr" and "Installation and Configuration". All the course material are available from customersource, which you should have as long as your enhancement fee is being paid. Ask your boss for access, and if they don't have it, have them get it from your partner.
Ask your NAV partner for a copy of the 5.0 installation disk (you can also download that from MSDN), so that you can read the manuals in the 'Doc' folder. In NAV 2009 they incorporated all information into the help system. You can browse online help here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc160853.aspx this site has tons of tutorials.
The best book out there currently is David Studebaker's book called "Programming Microsoft Dynamics NAV", read more about that book here: http://dynamicsuser.net/groups/dynamics_book_reviews/media/p/138360.aspx
Besides the technical aspects of being a NAV developer, I think it is important for you to recognize that NAV is an ERP package foremost, and that you would benefit greatly by learning about the functionality of the application. Start out with the introduction to NAV course, do the financials ones, trade, inventory, and of course the functional area that you will be working with. For instance, if you are a manufacturing company, get the manufacturing course material, to learn how that works in NAV. It will make you a better developer.
